These Numbers Tell You If a Ship Is Bending

After loading, the chief officer checks the loading plan against the ship’s draft marks. Marks at the bow, stern, and midship reveal both trim and whether the hull is hogging or sagging.
If the observed drafts match the loading computer’s prediction, it is a strong indication the cargo has been loaded as planned.
