The Pressure Difference Moving a Ship Forward
A propeller blade creates thrust through pressure difference. One face pushes water aft at high pressure, while the other draws water in at lower pressure.
At the blade tips, however, the high-pressure water curls around toward the low-pressure side. That produces spinning columns of water called tip vortices.
