Missed Opportunities in the Nomadic Mild Accident
The first warning was the ship’s position: Nomadic Mild had moved more than 200 metres from the anchor drop point with only around 100 metres of cable out. A later watch handover provided another missed chance to recognise the drag.
Her wide swings were also evidence. As the current pushed the vessel off the line of the anchors, each anchor alternately snubbed the ship around after it had already dragged a considerable distance.
